Powers/Abilities:

For starter, he is officially titled as a ‘Grim Reaper’ in his canon and that should have already give you a basic of the extent of Ragna’s powers. Ragna is a strong individual; Very strong actually, to the point that 99% of the civilians in his canon would run with their tails between their legs just by hearing “Ragna the Bloodedge”. He is shown to be able to take a whole platoon of soldiers by the beginning of the game, even.

Ragna’s weapon of choice is a chunk of sword called as a “Blood-Scythe” (No, really. A+ naming sense from the developer). Blood-Scythe allows him to literally drain the health of an opponent and add it to his own. The Blood-Scythe itself takes on the appearance of a heavy blade. It can, however transform into a more fearsome Scythe that allows the 'Soul Eater' ability to work more effectively. Soul Eater allows Ragna to summon parts of the black beast and utilize it for combat. It's main element alignment is darkness. He mainly uses this skill to bring forward beast claws, tails, wings, and fangs.

Not only that, Ragna also posses the Armagus, which is actually Ragna's right arm. It holds great power and greatly enhances the wielders attributes. In Ragna's case, he enters a powerful mode known as 'Blood Kain'. When he's in this state, his strength is vastly increased at the cost of his stamina. He can probably only use this skill as a last resort. It’s pretty much a double edged sword.

Personality:

Meet Ragna the Bloodedge. Well-known opponent of the NOL, wielder of an oversized sword, wanted criminal with the largest bounty in history (apparently enough to “buy a small country” with) … and hotheaded shounen hero, whose main hobbies include cooking, running around being angry and, admittedly, being kind of a derp.

A prerequisite to being the protagonist in a 2D-fighting game, Ragna's past (and current life, really) pretty much sucked. His arm was chopped off by his... uh, brother, home burnt down, and sister kidnapped, all in the duration of one day. From that moment, Ragna had resolved himself to "hate everything"--and it shows in his later personality. He comes off as abrasive, rude, and distant to other people; he's a bit of a lone wolf, though not silent by any means. In fact, he's not afraid to dissuade others from tagging along by saying, quite outright, he doesn't wantcompanions. However, heartless as he tries to portray himself, there's a guy with rather obviousemotions underneath. He'll lament if he comes off as too 'harsh', admit (with frustration) that he's being too 'soft', and, really, be a bit of a big brother. Which he is.

Being the protagonist, Ragna has the distinct honor of being the bait for pretty much everyone's taunts, teases, and freeloading. Lots. Of freeloading. And, of course, Ragna responds by... screaming. Or fighting. Or, in the case of freeloading, reluctantly paying up. In some cases, he doesn't mind. In most cases... he does. Characters like Rachel and Hazama have no trouble rousing him to action. Chances are, if you taunt him towards raising his sword, he will do so. On the other hand, he can be tolerant to characters like Jin and Taokaka--though the former jumps depending on the situation and his mood at the moment. More often than not Ragna's "blessed" with a short-temper; he's got his level-headed moments, though these seem to pop up when a) he's not overwhelmed or b) relatively in control of the situation.

Ragna does, however, have a habit of overestimating his own abilities. He seems to be in constant 'fight' mode for those he deems dangerous or dislikes, and, when he sets his mind to something, he won't be easily dissuaded from it. Stubborn as a mule, there are several instances where Ragna, despite various warnings, will go ahead and fight whoever the hell he wants to (see: Terumi). He's been beaten down and reprimanded for such behaviour, but even then he doesn't seem to stop. To put it in broad terms, he's a very 'my pace' kind of guy. Ragna will not conform to others; he'll do things how he likes, and that's all there is to it.

Despite his shortcomings, Ragna is quite capable of being... pleasant. Those who plead their case and are of the, uh, saner type... will often find themselves on his sympathetic side. Ragna's a softy at heart, though he'd rather not be. Though he'll do what's necessary, there are times when he finds himself hesitating due to familial links or memories. He makes distancing himself a priority, however, he sometimes finds that he is unwillingly protective of someone. He's casual, can run along with jokes, buys you lunch if he loses a bet and is, really, a cool guy to be around. When he's not screaming, calling you bastard, telling you to GET THE HELL AWAY FROM HIM, or just plain ignoring you.

tl;dr, he's a good protagonist with perfectly balanced good-bad traits.

Typical Appearance:

Roughly, Ragna is a tall man; standing at 185 cm (6’0.8’’). He’s also somewhat muscular if one was able to see his barechest, although he does a good job in covering them with his clothes most of the time. Generally, he's going to roll with his robeless appearance, but when it's raining/snowy/cold, he's going to don his red jacket so he actually looks like in his canon appearance.

In this game, he would probably wear something with long sleeves all the time due to the fact that he’s using a prosthetic limb for his right arm. He’s being a good sport here and don’t want to creep other who doesn’t like the sight of it.

Typical Inventory:

- A prosthetic arm: He’s wearing one by his right arm, but he does have a spare one with him just in case shit’s happening. It’s not in any way a futuristic one.
- Lunchbox: A handmade one.
- Cellphone: Not a smartphone, even. It’s an ol’ fashioned flippy one.
- Brass knuckle: Just in case someone needs to be hit really hard. Slipped somewhat deep inside one of the thicker books so teachers would probably have a hard time finding it.
- Notebooks: Relatively null of any writing because he rarely paid any attention at the lecture. There are a lot of random scribbles by the random pages though.
- Wallet: Filled with a bit of money, student id, a relatively lot of bills, and a single photo of him with his siblings. Ah, good old times when they were still a happy family in the orphanage.

Strengths/Abilities:

- Cooking : This is so a skill okay. Ragna's hobby is cooking. He's really good at barbecue... or something. But he's got good survival skills.
- Physical Strength : Yeah, you bet he's strong. He's not as physical-only heavy as say, Bob Sapp, but he's capable of fending for himself in a fight. He’s used to be a top bully hunter, alright.
- Determination : Ragna is so stubborn. He is so stubborn for real. Once he sets his mind to a goal it's hard to... take him off of it. Trust me. You can't.
- SHOUNEN SPIRIT!!!! : Ragna has a lot of potential for growth and overcomes fear through SHEER DETERMINATION AND FLAMING SPIRIT!!! That's pretty badass.
- Fearless : There's not a lot that gets Ragna frightened. In fact, he can pretty much stand steadfast in the face of most adversity. Almost stupidly so.
- Chick magnet: Let’s be real, this can be considered one. Although Ragna is mostly oblivious and doesn’t give two flying fucks about it, his swag is totally uncontrollable even by Ragna himself.

Weaknesses:

- Impatient : Ragna's often doing jobs quickly and rushing headfirst without much strategy or thought. If he has his sword, that's all he really needs or thinks about.
- Impulsive : When a thought goes into Ragna's mind, he'll most likely act on it. If he wants to fight someone, regardless of that person's POWER LEVELS!!1 he'll probably fight them.
- Prideful : He never really thinks 'I can't beat this guy', even when the situation is extremely grim. He's often saying he can make it through things with his own strength, regardless of whether or not it's enough.
- Book Dumb/Dense: Sometimes Ragna... doesn't get it. It's not that he's unintelligent... he just sometimes misses crucial details by acting solely on reactions / insticts rather than intellect or strategy.
- Short-tempered : Sometimes (read: most of the times) he's extremely easy to set off, though it seems to be dependent on the person.
- Ghosts : He is scared of them. Very. He prefers fighting 100 yankees than fighting a single ghost. End of story.

Personality Translation:

Ragna mostly remains the same, but the most important aspect here is that his violent tendency is toned down a notch due to how the world thinks of him. Back there, the world feared him so he needed to force his way in whenever he needed to take down a Cauldron or two, but here? Considering there are little to no bad rumors about him (more about this on AU backstory), he’s mostly chiller and more tolerant about things. While he still can be vicious to others at times, he will even consider the good things about them before punching the living shit out of them directly now.

That, and Jin and other bounty hunters aren’t around to hunt his sorry ass anymore.

Aside of that, Ragna is also more a lot more responsible due to the fact that he grew up alone (and to more extend, stuck alone in a small apartment as opposed to being a vigilante who went basically everywhere) here. He’s way more skillful with mundane things like cooking, cleaning, and other housekeeping things. Hey, you’ve gotta spend the time somewhere anyway! And since Ragna isn’t exactly the most diligent person when it comes to school grades… Well, you know what I mean.

AU Backstory:

CW for borderline gory situation

Ever since he was small, his parents left Ragna in the orphanage with his younger siblings. He was never been told why they left him to take care of his siblings in that age, but that was the last time he witnessed his parents. They were never heard from after that, and whether they left Ragna on purpose or not was never unknown. But regardless, Ragna then lived there with a lot of other orphans, and he managed to prove himself as a dependable big brother even from that age. He was even considered one of the kindest guy back in the orphanage.

Unfortunately, not so long after that, the church was burned due to the unfortunate location: It was right on the border of two battling countries. Like it or not, everything went downhill pretty bad for Ragna ever since that point: He was separated from the rest of his friends and siblings and Ragna himself was caught in the middle of it: One of the thrown bombs exploded right next to him and it cost Ragna his dear right arm. He was even left to die on the ground after that.

(To present day, he never even considered that there might be other survivor from that incident, when the possibility was there.)

Regardless, the world deemed that he was to not to die at that day. Although he lost around 90% of his blood, Ragna managed to survive just in time the rescue unit arrived to take care of whatever remaining on that wasted battleground. He was then nursed back to health for months, although there was nothing that could be done to his right arm except make-do with a prosthetic limb. But in all honesty, Ragna was glad that he was alive.

That orphanage incident did scar Ragna a lot, both physically and mentally. The most important part to note that while his kindness was still there down inside of him, Ragna’s view on the world changed drastically. He hated that kindness couldn’t bring him anywhere and ever since that day, he made a promise to himself that he would grow stronger… Strong enough so that such thing would not happen to anyone close to him. Thankfully, he was picked up by a relatively mysterious old man after that, who happened to be a sword master as well. Under that man, Ragna was then adopted and trained to be a powerful young warrior, as well as an honorable gentleman… Because you know, those two were supposed to go hand in hand. The latter was only taken partially though, due to how focused he was in gaining the necessary strength and he couldn’t put much focus on being a kind person again.

By the middle school, he was already famous as a bully hunter. Whoever tried to mess with someone that Ragna knew would be answered with a swift knock on the jaw/cheek/somewhere on their faces. This was also the reason why he was one of most popular guy by the school; while he was not exactly the smartest, he was considered as one of the most dependable person out of that small public school in Shiroiwa. A lot of girls (and guys) saw his true nature from this fraction of him, but hey, Ragna being Ragna, decided to ignore those attentions at him and preferred to stay away from most of them; only handful of them was close enough to him to the point that he would remember their names. It was very understandable, actually. Ragna was still a bit afraid to be too close to others that if he were to lose them again, he would probably need to go through the same shit again.

Along that time as well, a lot of delinquents, even from other schools, often gang up on Ragna -who apparently got nicknamed as a ‘Shinigami’ out of nowhere- for no reason. Perhaps they wanted fame from defeating him in a combat or perhaps they were just jealous about his (unwanted) popularity, but in any case, Ragna still made a short work out of them. No sooner, he was considered as a legendary bully hunter for that generation.

He was still able to escape from getting into trouble by the facility there though, due to the fact that he never threw the punch first. For the rest of his middle school life, he never once got into unnecessary trouble. Or if there were actually one, they were not made public.

He then enrolled in Shiroiwa High with more or less same attitude, starting from the tenth grade. Although not by flying colors, Ragna managed to barely pass the entrance test. He also tried his best to not to stand out too much so there were no necessary trouble that would brew, because let us be real, Ragna had already considered himself as a disaster magnet. That, and some of the classmates were still intimidated by his old title Shinigami as well as his artificial right arm.

He just wanted to graduate peacefully and got himself a good job for his future, man.

Character Summary:

That short fused guy with artificial arm who yells all the time. He’s actually pretty chill when known better though.
